ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The Webster University women's cross country team placed fifth at the SLU Billiken Invitational Friday, posting a team score of 114 points in the 6K race.
The meet marked a new challenge for the Gorloks, as the majority of the Webster roster competed in the 6K distance for the first time in their collegiate careers. Violet Hill and Brie Inman were the only Webster runners with previous 6K experience.
Hill led the Gorloks across the finish line, placing 25th overall with a time of 29:43.0. Lydia Imboden followed in 28th at 30:31.3, while Brooklynn Leeper finished 31st in 31:48.8.
Ayanna Lyons placed 32nd with a time of 32:28.8, followed by Selene Ahlersmeyer in 34th at 33:19.1 and Inman in 36th at 34:12.3. Marissa Usher finished in 39th, with a time of 43:14.1.
The Gorloks' fifth-place finish came behind Saint Louis, Missouri, Maryville and Lincoln. Webster's five scoring runners finished with an average time of 31:34.
"The ladies competed well today," Webster head coach Kyle Robinson said. "This was the first career 6K for the majority of our team, and I was happy to see them approach it head on. We have a very young group, and we are trending in the right direction. I think we will see substantial improvement by the end of the season."
Webster will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Louisville Classic at Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky.
