ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's soccer team traveled across town on Thursday evening to take on Missouri Baptist University in its 2026 season opener. The Gorloks and Spartans finished tied at one after 90 minutes.

Webster outshot Missouri Baptist by a final count of 12-10 and put five shots on target compared to four from the Spartans. The Gorloks also held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Gorloks got off to a strong start in this one as they created several chances in the opening 15 minutes. After Scott Price and Juan Ignacio Martins Ferreira each had shots saved, Webster broke through in the 16th minute as Jorgen Koren found the back of the net off an assist from Martins Ferreira to give the Gorloks a 1-0 lead.

Missouri Baptist answered in the 37th minute when Austin Bergmann scored to tie the game at one. The Spartans carried the momentum into halftime with the score deadlocked.

Neither team was able to find the go-ahead goal in the second half. Sanel Catic entered in goal for Webster at halftime and made two saves, while the Gorloks created several opportunities throughout the period. Webster applied pressure late, earning five corner kicks over the final 14 minutes, but was unable to find the game-winning goal.

The Gorloks will return to action on Tuesday, September 8 when they host the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for a non-conference matchup. The game will begin at 6 p.m. at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
