Gorloks drop third straight at Illinois Wesleyan, 82-69

(St. Louis, Mo.) – The Webster Gorloks men’s basketball squad dropped its third straight contest at Illinois Wesleyan, 82-69 on Sunday afternoon in Bloomington, Ill.

Webster (2-3) got off to a slow start out of the gates falling behind 12-2 only three minutes into the contest. The Gorloks would cut the lead in half, but Illinois Wesleyan (3-2) used a 7-0 run to stretch the lead back to double-digits. The Titans would push the lead to as much as 15 points with seven minutes left in the frame before WU closed the half on a 20-10 run behind eight points from Luke Niebrugge to pull within 41-36.

Webster shot 50 percent (14-of-28) from the floor and 7-of-11 (64 percent) from behind the arc. IWU was just a bit better however as it hit on 53 percent (17-of-32) but was only 2-of-9 (22 percent) from downtown.

The Gorloks came out of the break and cut the Titans lead to one on a couple of different occasions but were unable to take the lead as IWU responded with a 13-5 run to extend its lead and would not look back leading by as much as 16 in the second half on its way to the final margin.

After its hot shooting in the opening half Webster cooled off a little only making 12-of-29 (41 percent) while the Titans were even better missing only eight shots on their way to a 58 percent clip (11-of-19) in the frame.

Ryan Turk led three Gorloks in double figures with 16 points, while Niebrugee and Steve Hrdlicka each had 15.

Brett Chamernik led all scorers with 27 points on 9-of-11 shooting. He was joined by Doug Sexauer with 17 and Darius Gant with 11.
