(St. Louis, Mo.) – In a match-up between two of the preseason favorites for the SLIAC title the Webster Gorloks rolled to a big victory over its archrival the Fontbonne Griffins 84-62, at Fontbonne on Wednesday evening.

After both sides traded buckets over the next 3:30 minutes, Webster went on a 23-5 run to grab its largest lead of the half at 40-17 and cruised into the intermission with a 22 point lead. As a team the Gorloks shot 45 percent (18-of-40) from the floor while the defense shut down the Griffins (2-2, 0-1 SLIAC), offense holding them to just 8-of-29 (28 percent) from the field while forcing 10 turnovers. The second half started out the way the first half ended with Webster extending its lead to 34 points, the largest of the night, with a 16-4 run to start the half. The lead would stay around the 30 point mark until the 6:31 mark when a 10-0 run by the Griffins cut the lead to 77-57 with less than five minutes to play but by that point the Gorloks had emptied their bench and coasted home with the victory.
