Gorloks go cold in 52-42 loss at Principia

(St. Louis, Mo.) – The Webster Gorloks dropped its second straight contest on Saturday afternoon to the Principia Panthers 52-42 on Saturday afternoon in Elsah, Ill.

The Gorloks (5-5, 0-2 SLIAC) struggled all afternoon on the offensive end of the floor as they were only 16-of-62 (26 percent) from the floor and shot 18 percent (3-for-17) from behind the arc. The game was tightly contested through the opening half six ties and eight lead changes. Neither side held more than a four point lead for the entire frame with Principia (1-6, 1-2 SLIAC) heading into the intermission with a 30-26 advantage. WU’s defense kept it in the game forcing 14 Panther turnovers and turning them into 15 points.

The second frame was a carbon copy of the first one through the opening 10 minutes. Webster battled back tying the game on a couple of different occasions but could not quite get over the hump and take the lead. After a quick 5-0 spurt by PC the Gorloks found themselves in a hole but dug their way out and clawed back to within a point but again could not retake the lead. After a Christina Speer jumper put Principia up 45-42 WU missed its last seven shots of the game and the Panthers scored the seven points in the final 0:30 to pull away with the game.

#Katy Meyer recorded her double-double in her last four games with 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Gorloks. Michelle McQueen# finished with nine points.
