Caquelin Named SLIAC Freshman of the Year and Sixth Woman of the Year In Women’s Basketball; First-Ever Gorlok In SLIAC History To Be Selected For Both Awards In Same Season

BELLEVILLE, Ill. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has released the end of season individual awards for the sport of Women's Basketball. First-year guard Akaela Caquelin was selected as the SLIAC Freshman of the Year and SLIAC Sixth Woman of the Year. With these selections, she became the first-ever Gorlok and second player in SLIAC history to be chosen for both awards in the same season. 

Caquelin, a sharp-shooting guard from Rolla, Missouri scored 129 points where she led the conference and the team with 26 made three-pointers for an average of 1.9 per game as that 1.9 average finished fifth in the conference. In addition, she recorded 25 steals for an average of 1.8 per game that finished 17th overall. 

Caquelin was very active at the glass and tied Meghan Illingworth with a team-high 76 rebounds for an average of 5.4 rebounds per game that finished tied for 20th in the league. Lastly, she tallied 18 assists and finished second on the team with six blocks.  

She concludes her first season in the SLIAC conference with averages of 9.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.8 steals, 1.2 assists, and 0.4 blocks per game.

With the SLIAC 6th Woman of the Year selection, it marks the fourth consecutive season a Gorlok has won this award.

With the SLIAC Freshman of the Year selection, she marks the fourth Gorlok in SLIAC history to be selected for this award and the third under Head Coach Jordan Olufson.
