The Webster University women's soccer team beat Fontbonne University 4-0 on Saturday, October 18. The Gorloks are currently 14-2 overall and hold a perfect 6-0 record in conference. Webster had a strong showing from team captain junior Jenna Steiner, sophomore Megan Niederschulte, and sophomore Christy Capkovic.
"We played well against a good team. We were focused and determined," said head coach Luigi Scire.
Niederschulte kicked off the offense for Webster with a goal at the 28 minute mark of the first half. There were numerous chances from both teams, but Webster's defense held. Before the half was over, Steiner added a goal, followed by a second goal for Megan Niederschulte with 11 minutes to play in
the half. The second half was headlined by Capkovic, who scored the team's fourth goal.
After the game head coach Luigi Scire said, "We didn't take Fontbonne for granted and we matched their intensity."
Seniors Jessica Kozeny, Breanna Cashel, and Kelly Strecker were honored that night and will be missed next season.
"We admire our seniors for their leadership, work ethic, and their determination and desire to succeed and bring a conference championship back to Webster," added Scire.
The Gorloks return to the field Tuesday, October 21, at 5 p.m. as they face Principia College for a critical SLIAC matchup in Elsah, Ill.
