On October 2, Webster University hit a road block on their almost perfect season falling to Washington University in three rigorous sets. The first set looked good for Webster with an early lead, but Washington University wrapped the set up with a 25-18 win. Washington University picked up the momentum with a 25-15 victory. In the final set, the Gorloks were more competitive but were unable to catch up as the Bears captured a 25-16 win.
The Washington University Bears came in ranked No. 4 with a title to defend and the Gorloks had to mentally and physically prepare for the match. “We knew they were very strong offensively and we play the same defense, so we tried to hit the spots we usually struggle to defend,” said Webster head coach Merry Graf. The Gorloks struggled offensively and it showed “Although we started game one great, we struggled with passing and weren’t able to run our offense. We are at our best when we run our offense and we weren’t able to do that tonight,” said Graf.
The Gorloks look for a win on October 4, against the Saints at Maryville University at 11:00a.m.
