(St. Louis, Mo.) - The Webster Gorloks won its first two matches of the season defeating Westminster 6-3 and Eureka 8-1 on Saturday at the Webster Groves Recreation Complex on Saturday. With the wins Webster currently stands in first place in the conference with a 2-0 mark.

    The Gorloks (2-2, 2-0 SLIAC) won four of the six singles matches with three of the victories coming in straight sets. Laila Wessel won the #1 singles match rallying to win the last two sets by identical 6-2 scores after dropping the first set. Megan Eakes, Hannah Wojahn and Maria Penaherrera all picked up straight set wins in the no.s four, five and six singles matches respectively. Webster sealed the victory by winning the first doubles match 8-3 behind the duo of Wessel and Alex Meyer then added some insurance with an 8-4 win in the final doubles match from Wojahn and Penaherrera.

    In the nightcap WU had little trouble with the Red Devils (1-1, 1-1 SLIAC) winning five of the six matches played and picking up three wins by default. Wessel, Meyer and Eakes got the Gorloks off on the right foot winning the first three matches. Wessel and Meyer picked up straight set wins while Eakes rallied from a set down winning the final two 7-6 and 6-4. In the doubles competition it was all Webster picking up 8-2 and 8-1 wins.

    Both squads return to action with a SLIAC match at Fontbonne on Tuesday evening beginning at 5:30 p.m.
