Scots Scotch Gorloks 84-70

Fall in James C. Campbell Tournament Opener

The Webster University men's basketball team lost in the first round of the James C. Campbell Tournament, 84-70, to host Maryville College (TN).  The Gorloks, down 34-30 at the half, couldn't overcome the Scots, a perennial power who have made 11 straight trips to the NCAA III Tournament.

The Gorloks shot well from the field (50 percent) and rebounded well with the Scots (32-34) but missed numerous opportunities from the free-throw line in the second half.  They found themselves down by 16 with 7:00 minutes to play as Maryville converted 83 percent of their free throws compared to Webster's 58 percent.

Nick Jones (JR, Heritage HS, IL), who missed the opener with Illinois Wesleyan, scored 22 points in his first action of 2009-10.  Junior Scott Restoff (Mater Dei HS, IL) had 11 points and five rebounds and Kevin Miller (FR, Belleville East HS, IL) chipped in with five points and eight rebounds.

The game was a homecoming of sorts for head coach Chris Bunch.  Bunch served as an assistant at Maryville before taking the reins at Webster in 2002.

Webster will take on LaGrange College on November 22, in the second round of the round-robin tournament.
