Redhawks End Gorlok Streak at Four

Ripon 61 Webster 52

The Webster University women's basketball team fell to the Ripon College Redhawks, 61-52, at Grant Gymnasium on December 30.  After an 18-day layoff, the Gorloks saw their winning streak end at four games.

Webster fell behind 11-0 to start the contest, but scratched its way back to within two points, 39-37, with 12:30 left in the game.  A 12-0 run by Ripon ended this threat and opened up a 14-point lead.  The Gorloks fought back again, with a 10-1 run of their own, to pull within five, 52-47, but could get no closer.

Maggie Zehner (FR, Oakville HS, STL) had nine points, six rebounds, and four steals for Webster.  Katy Meyer (JR, Parkway Central HS, STL) and Blair Underwood (SO, Webster Groves HS, STL) both led the Gorloks with 10 points.

The Gorloks are now 6-3 (2-0 SLIAC) on the season.  Ripon, the 2008-09 Midwestern Conference champions and a 2009 NCAA Tournament team, improved to 6-3.  Webster heads to Louisville, KY, this weekend to take on Spalding University.  Webster's next home game is a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game vs. Eureka College, on January 6, at 6 p.m.
