Freshman Myrtie Reilly set a new single-season block mark as Webster fell to Maryville Wednesday, 86-56, in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at Moloney Arena.
Reilly, who joined the team at winter break, had three blocks in the loss to bring her season total to 52. She is also second all-time in the category.
For 19 minutes, the Gorloks stood toe-to-toe with the top team in the SLIAC, but a 7-2 run at the end of the first half was just a precursor of what was to come. The run helped Maryville claim the five-point halftime lead.
Freshman Ayrica Lockett did her best to keep Webster close, and was the only Gorlok player to score for the first nine minutes of the second half. She finished with 18 points and eight rebounds, while junior Julie McGirl finished with 11 points and six rebounds.
Webster falls to 10-13 overall, 5-9 in the SLIAC, and will return to Grant Gymnasium Saturday to host Greenville. The Gorloks in conjunction with the WCBA’s Pink Zone, Webster will be holding its Pink Zone festivities.
