Women's Tennis drops opener

Freshman Allison Tungate was the lone player to earn a victory as the Webster women's tennis team dropped its opener to Missouri Baptist Thursday, 6-3.The two other victories came via defaults at sixth singles and third doubles.

Tungate was victorious in second singles by the score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-1. Junior Amanda Vest lost a heartbreaker of a match in a third set super tiebreaker 2-6, 6-2, 10-7.

“You can tell it was our first match,” said assistant coach Laila Wessel, who played for the Gorloks last season, earning a selection to the all-conference team, “We really played well and loosened up.  I think this was a good warm up match.”

The Gorloks will begin their St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule on Saturday March 21, when they take on Fontbonne University.  The match will begin at 9 a.m. at the Webster Groves Recreational Complex.  Last season WU dominated Fontbonne.  WU not only defeated FU in both matchups, but they did not lost a single game against the Griffins.
