The Webster University women's basketball team suffered its first loss in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, losing to Fontbonne University, 62-49, at home on January 13. The Gorloks fell to 5-1 in the SLIAC.
The Gorloks fell behind early, 12-5, but a 17-4 run pulled them ahead, and they entered the locker room with a 27-23 lead. After trading baskets for the first few minutes of the second half, the Gorlok shooting went in the deep freeze as they hit only 5 of 36 for the half.
Katy Meyer (JR, Parkway Central HS, STL) led Webster with 19 points and pulled down a season-high 15 rebounds.
Ayrica Lockett (SO, Crossroads Prep, STL) grabbed 11 rebounds for the Gorloks.
Webster and Westminster College now each have one loss in SLIAC play. Webster heads to Greenville College (IL) on January 20 before returning home to face Westminster, in what is shaping up as a battle for first place, on January 23.
