The Webster University women's basketball team ran its St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference record to 3-0 with a 63-52 win over Spalding University in Louisville, KY, on January 2. The Gorloks stand alone in first place in the SLIAC and are now 7-3 overall.
Webster led by one, 26-25, at the half, and the two teams statistically matched up fairly even overall, with the exception of the free-throw line. The Gorloks converted 21 of 27 free-throws, while the Golden Eagles only hit on nine of 25 attempts. The 12-point swing helped the Gorloks bring home the win.
Freshman
Catherine Russell (Clyde C. Miller Academy, STL) had 11 points and five rebounds for the Gorloks. Russell was pressed into service when Tori Fenemor (FR, St. Charles HS, STL) went down with an injury in the first half. Freshman
Airyn Miller (Belleville West HS, IL), also had 11 points, and
Katy Meyer (Parkway Central HS, STL) added 10 points and five rebounds.
The Gorloks head to the Hilltop to take on Washington University on January 4 and return home to face Eureka College on January 6.
