The men's basketball team battled the Bears of Washington University, but couldn't beat the number one ranked team in the nation, losing 69-60, on January 4 at The Hilltop. The Gorloks were down by eight points with 1:30 remaining to the Bears, the two-time defending national champs, but could get no closer.
Webster was down 39-25 at the half, but 13 of 22 shooting from the field in the second half kept it within striking distance of the Bears. Washington University converted its free throws down the stretch, not leaving any windows open for the Gorloks, hitting 11 of 15 in second half.
Nick Jones (JR, Heritage HS, IL) led the Gorloks with 13 points, and
Scott Restoff (JR, Mater Dei HS, IL) added 12 points and six assists.
John Ortwerth (SR, DeSmet Jesuit HS, STL) led the Gorloks with six rebounds.
Webster returns home on January 6, facing St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Eureka College (IL) at Grant Gymnasium. The Gorloks are 2-1 in SLIAC action, and 5-7 overall.
