The Webster University women’s basketball team did everything but win in a nail-biting, 83-81, loss to Aurora University in the Holiday Inn Select Tip-Off in Naperville, IL, on November 20. After a game of lead changes and score swings like a thermometer, an Aurora three-pointer with less than a minute to play gave them the final lead.
Katy Meyer (SR, Parkway Central HS) paced the Gorloks with 18 points, and for her efforts, was named to the Holiday Inn Select Tip-Off All-Tournament Team. Barissa Ford (SR, Clayton HS) added 16 points and Tori Fenemor (SO, St. Charles HS) netted 13 points and had a team-high six rebounds.
The Gorloks shooting came alive in the game, shooting just under 50% from the field, and hitting 19 of 22 free throws. Down by four at the half, Webster opened up a seven point lead at 13:00 of the second. After several lead changes, the Gorloks led by six with three minutes remaining in the game before a late surge by Aurora secured the victory for the Spartans.
Webster is home on November 23 to face Rose-Hulman Institute (IN) at Grant Gymnasium. The Gorloks have a post-Thanksgiving contest on November 27 at home vs. Augustana College IL).
