The Women’s basketball team didn’t bother with dramatics as Webster University defeated MacMurray College (IL), 90-63, in Jacksonville, IL, on December 1. The Gorloks had four players in double figures as they spread the scoring around in the victory, to open St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.
The Gorloks galloped to a 46-19 halftime lead as the Highlanders had trouble keeping up with Webster’s running game. Webster kept up the pace in the second half, leading to the 90-63 final. Gorloks shot 51% from the field and hit a scorching 87% (13-15) from the 3-point arc. Completing the shooting trifecta, Webster was 15-16 (94%) from the free throw line. Twelve players got into the scoring column.
Katy Meyer (SR, Parkway Central HS) and Megan Willett (JR, Parkway West HS) both scored 16 points to lead Webster. Willett led the Gorloks with seven rebounds. Loren Douglass (SO, Marquette HS) dropped in 12 points and freshman Courtney Pursley (St. Clair HS, MO) hit double figures with 10 points.
Webster is 1-0 in the SLIAC and evened its record at 3-3 overall, Webster’s next game is at home on December 4 vs. Eureka College (IL). The Gorloks have a week off before hosting Central College (IA) on December 11.
