The Webster University women’s basketball won a non-conference battle over Central College (IA), 75-69, on December 11 at Grant Gymnasium. The Gorloks won their fourth straight contest, grinding out a come from behind victory over the Dutch.
A 20-2 run, starting at the 6:00 in the first half, helped propel Webster to a 32-29 halftime lead. As the score swung back and forth early in the second half, the Gorloks leading scorer, Katy Meyer (SR, Parkway Central HS), sat with four fouls. Webster took a 52-43 lead and, after re-entering the game with 8:00 left, two three-point baskets by Meyer put the Gorloks in control for the remainder of the contest.
Meyer finished with 26 points and had seven rebounds. Megan Willett (JR, Parkway West HS) had 15 points, led the Gorloks with 10 rebounds, had five assists, and two steals. Barissa Ford (SR, Clayton HS) added 11 points and six rebounds. Maggie Zehner (SO, Oakville HS) had a team high six assists, to go along with nine points and six rebounds.
The Gorloks are 5-3 overall on the season. The team has a week off before facing the nationally ranked Washington University Bears at Grant Gymnasium on December 18. Webster will be spending a few days in California as they take on Whittier College and Pomona College on December 29-30.
