Gorloks Pounce on Panthers

Webster 75 Principia College 41

The Webster University women’s basketball team reached the 16-victory mark with a 75-41 win over Principia College (IL) at Grant Gymnasium on February 16. It was just the third time in the 24-year history of the program that the Gorloks have reached this plateau.  At 11-3, Webster solidified its hold on second-place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and is 16-7 overall.

Webster raced to a 42-23 halftime lead and kept the pressure on throughout the contest. Ayrica Lockett (SO, Crossroads Prep, STL) had 12 points and six rebounds, with Katy Meyer (JR, Parkway Central HS, STL) and Catherine Russell (FR, Clyde C. Miller Academy, STL) adding 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Brittany Grant (SR, Francis Howell HS, STL), was honored in a ceremony for seniors between the women’s and men’s basketball games. Grant, the lone senior on the women’s squad, joined the Gorloks in the second half of the 2008-2009 season and has appeared in 15 games this year.

The Gorloks enter ‘The Pink Zone’ on February 20 as they face Spalding University (KY) at Grant Gymnasium.  Several fundraisers to benefit breast cancer research and the Susan G. Komen Foundation will be held.  Webster ends the SLIAC regular season at Fontbonne University on February 23.
