Webster 71 Spalding 63

The Webster University women’s basketball team hit the 17-victory mark for just the third time in the program’s history with its 71-63 win over Spalding University (KY) at home on February 20. The Gorloks held onto second-place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, at 12-3, with the win.

Katy Meyer (JR, Parkway Central HS, STL) led the Gorloks with 20 points and eight rebounds. Guards Barissa Ford (JR, Clayton HS, STL) and Maggie Zehner (Oakville HS, STL) both dropped in 13 points. Ford’s four second-half steals ignited a 14-2 Webster run that turned a 38-38 tie into a 52-40 lead for the Gorloks.

The 2001-2002 women's basketball team amassed 25 victories on its way to a Sweet-16 appearance in the NCAA Tournament and an undefeated SLIAC mark of 14-0.  The Gorloks second season-high total came in the 2004-2005 season, when the team finished 21-7 on the year.

Grant Gymnasium became ‘The Pink Zone’ for the game, in awareness of the fight against breast cancer. Various fund-raising activities were held and a representative from the Susan G. Komen Foundation spoke at halftime of the contest.

The Gorloks are 17-7 overall and end the regular season at Fontbonne University on February 23. The SLIAC tournament will be February 26-27 at Fontbonne University.  Webster has clinched a spot in the tournament.
