The Webster University women’s basketball team slipped back into first-place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with an 80-69 win at Eureka College (IL) on February 6. The Gorloks are 10-2 in the SLIAC and pulled a half-game ahead of idle Fontbonne University. Webster is 15-6 overall, and with one more victory can match the second highest victory total in the program’s history (16).
Ayrica Lockett (SO, Crossroads Prep, STL) and
Katy Meyer (JR, Parkway Central HS, STL) each recorded a double/double in the contest, a first in a game for the Gorloks this season. Lockett had a team-high 19 points and 11 rebounds, with Meyer right behind with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Airyn Miller (FR, Belleville West HS, IL), making her first appearance after missing four games with an injury, had nine points and four steals.
Maggie Zehner (FR, Oakville HS, STL) had nine points also, and a season-high eight rebounds.
The Gorloks trailed at the half, 31-29, but utilized 46% shooting from the field and a 17-6 edge in free throws in the second half to pull out the win.
The Gorloks go back on the road to face Westminster College on February 10 in Fulton, MO. Webster returns home on February 16 to face Principia College (IL).
