Gorloks Roll, Come Up With Seven in Win Over Spalding

Webster 66 Spalding University 52

The Webster University men’s basketball team took its win streak on the road and made it seven straight, defeating Spalding University, 66-52, in Louisville, KY, on January 15. Both teams came into the contest tied for second in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at 4-1. The Gorlok win sets up a showdown on Wednesday with first-place Westminster College.

Drew Moore (SR, Northwest HS) came off the bench to spark the Gorloks for a second straight game. Moore finished with 15 points, four assists, and four steals in the contest. Freshman Jarrod Huskey (Hillsboro HS, MO) had 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds in the win. Willie Trimble (JR, Riverside CC, CA) had 13 points, three assists, and four steals on the night, and Nick Jones (SR, Heritage HS, IL) tied for the team lead with 15 points.

A 13-5 run late in the second half gave Webster a 31-21 lead. Spalding cut the lead to three with 7:01 remaining in the game. But a quick foul by Spalding, and a pair of free throws by Jones made it five and the Golden Eagles would never get any closer.

The Gorloks are 5-1 in the SLIAC and improved to 10-4 overall. Webster returns home on January 19 to play Westminster, who sits alone atop the SLIAC standings with a 7-0 record.
