Webster Clipped by Golden Eagles, 71-59

The Webster University women’s basketball team didn’t have any Southern Hospitality extended to it as Spalding University downed the Gorloks, 71-59, in Louisville, KY, on January 15. Coming off a big win at home vs. Fontbonne University, Webster experienced how tough life on the road is in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Katy Meyer (SR, Parkway Central HS) had 16 points for the Gorloks, hitting three of six from the three point line.  Webster as a team was eight of 16 from beyond the arc.  Meyer led Webster with eight rebounds.  Maggie Zehner (SO, Oakville HS), playing in her second game since missing three with a knee injury, showed she is completely back in form, scoring 16 as well.

Webster fell behind 33-20 in the first half, hitting seven of 22 from the field.  The Gorloks picked it up in the second half, but weren't able to cut into the Golden Eagles lead.

Webster and Spalding came into the game tied for second in the SLIAC. Webster falls to 4-2 in the conference and 9-6 overall on the season. They are home on January 19 to face Westminster College. The Blue Jays are first in the SLIAC with a perfect 7-0 record.
