Webster Wins as Meyer Hits 1000 Point Plateau

Webster University 83 Greenville College 71

Webster University picked up a much-needed win at Greenville College (IL), 83-71, on January 22, as Katy Meyer (SR, Parkway Central HS) joined the 1000-point club. Meyer becomes just the fifth player in Webster women’s basketball history to score 1000 points. It was a big road victory for Webster, keeping the team in the thick of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoff race.

The Gorloks used a late burst to take a 40-31 halftime lead, and maintained a ten-point lead for the remainder of the contest. The Gorloks defense harried the Panthers, picking up 13 steals. Webster’s offensive output was due in part to nine for 18 shooting from the three-point line. The 83 points was the second-highest point total on the season for Webster, who scored 90 points in a win at MacMurray College (IL) on December 1.

Meyer led Webster with 15 points, hitting four of five three-point attempts. Meyer has 1014 points for her career. She’s in striking distance of moving into third place on the career scoring list before season’s end. In addition to being fifth in scoring, she is fourth in rebounds and first in three-point field goals.

Airyn Miller (SO, Belleville West HS, IL) had 14 points in the contest, going three for six from beyond the arc. Molly Zehner (SR, Oakville HS) scored a career-high 12 points and Tori Fenemor (SO, St. Charles HS) netted 11 for the game. Freshman Courtney Pursley (St. Clair HS, MO) had a team-high seven rebounds in only eight minutes of play.

Webster is 5-3 in the SLIAC and tied for third place. The Gorloks improved to 10-7 overall on the season. The Gorloks are at Principia College (IL) on January 25, and then conclude their three-game road trip with at Eureka College (IL) on January 29. The team returns home on February 5 to face MacMurray College (IL).
