Another Thrilla in Illina, Gorloks Win 63-58

After barely escaping with a win in its last SLIAC road game, the Webster University men’s basketball team generated another exciting finish in a 63-58 victory at Eureka College (IL) on January 29. The Gorloks saw a 19-point second-half lead shrink to three, before recovering to secure the victory. Webster won its 11th consecutive game and improved to 9-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Webster had a 34-19 halftime lead and extended it to 19 on buckets by Nick Jones (SR, Heritage HS, IL) and Willie Trimble (JR, Riverside CC, CA) to open the second half. The Red Devils shot six three-pointers to help cut the lead to 49-46 at 9:03. A 7-0 run by the Gorloks helped them build the lead back to 10 as they held on for the win.

Trimble had 17 points to lead Webster, and Jones finished with 15 points for the game. Continuing his productive play coming off the bench, Hollis Edwards (FR, McGavock HS, TN) had 12 points and three assists on the day. Jarrod Huskey (FR, Hillsboro HS, MO) and Drew Moore (SR, Northwest HS) each had a team-high eight rebounds.

Webster remains in first place in the SLIAC. The Gorloks are 14-4 overall on the season, surpassing their win total for 2009-10. The Gorloks travel to Rolla, MO, on February 1 to face NCAA II opponent Missouri S & T University. They return home of February 5 to begin a three-game home stand, taking on MacMurray College (IL).
