Gorloks Singe Red Devils, 70-54

The Webster University women’s basketball team turned a solid, across the board effort, into a 70-54 win on the road at Eureka College (IL) on January 29. Webster shot 41% from the field, out-rebounded the Red Devils, 51-34, and had 15 steals for the game. Four Gorloks scored in double figures, including Megan Willett (JR, Parkway West HS), who recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Katy Meyer (SR, Parkway Central HS) led the team with 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Airyn Miller (SO, Belleville West HS, IL) and Maggie Zehner (SO, Oakville HS) both had 10 points in the win.

Webster got off to a slow start, trading baskets with Eureka throughout the first half as the lead changed hands six times. A 9-0 run by the Gorloks, in a three-minute span, opened up a 31-20 Webster lead at the 1:58 mark and the score was 34-24 at the half. That would be the closest Eureka would trail for the remainder of the contest.

Webster is 7-3 in the SLIAC, in third place, and are 12-7 overall on the season. The Gorloks have a week off before beginning a three-game home stand, starting with MacMurray College (IL) on February 5. They face Blackburn College (IL) on February 9 and Spalding University (KY), in a rare Friday night contest, on February 11.
