Gorloks Drudge Beavers, 94-63

The Men’s basketball team raced to a 50-29 halftime lead and remained in control as Webster won, 94-63, at Blackburn College (IL) on January 4. Willie Trimble (JR, Riverside CC, CA) paced the Gorloks first-half surge with 22 points, en route to a game-high 26. The win gave the Gorloks a 2-1 record in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Webster shot a torrid 62% from the field for the game, including 56% from beyond the three-point line. The Gorloks piled up 21 assists with Scott Restoff (SR, Mater Dei HS, IL) leading the way with six, and Nick Jones (SR, Heritage HS, IL) with five. Jones finished with 17 points and a team high six rebounds for the game.

Trimble, who was five for six from the three-point line in the first half, and had four steals, played sparingly in the second half as the Gorlok JV squad got a workout with the comfortable lead. The 94 points was the most by a team in the Webster/Blackburn series since SLIAC competition began. The 31 point spread is the second largest, eclipsed only by Webster’s 46 point win (86-40) in 2009.

The win was Webster’s third straight, raising its overall record to 6-4. The Gorloks return home on January 6 against Principia College (IL), and face Fontbonne University at home on January 8.
