The Webster University women's volleyball team won it's seventh straight match at Eureka College (IL), 3-0, on October 4. In that stretch, the Gorloks have only lost three sets total, including five 3-0 match sweeps.
The Gorloks won in a steady, if not convincing fashion, beating the Red Devils 25-25-15. 25-14. amd 25-19. Webster has built a 9-1 record in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and sit in second place, one game behind Spalding University (KY). Spalding will visiting the Gorloks on October 7 for a SLIAC showdown at Grant Gymnasium. Webster will be looking to grab a share of first place with a victory. The Gorloks are looking to win the SLIAC crown after having their string of three straight titles snapped in 2010.
The match on October 7 will also be "Dig Pink" Night. The volleyball team is helping in the fight against breat cancer by sponsoring 'Dig Pink'. Donations raised from activities during the evening's match will go toward breast cancer research. Admission to the volleyball match is free, but donations will be accepted at the door also.
Webster has another home match on October 11 vs. Blackburn College (IL), then travels to Colorado for the Colorado College tournament on October 14-15. In addition to the host team, the tournament will feature the University of California-Santa Cruz, famous for its Banana Slug mascot, that rivals the Gorlok as being one of the most unusual in the United States.
