Box Score Starting a lineup that features only one player over 6'3 will be a challenge at times as the Webster University men's basketball team found, in a 89-73 loss to Maryville College (TN), on November 20. The Gorloks faced the taller Scots, who's front line averaged 6'6 at times, in the second round of the Cavallo Classic at Grant Gymnasium. Webster's outside shooting game, tepid at best throughout the contest, wasn't enough to overcome Maryville's advantage under the basket.
Stefan Whittingham, a sophomore from Ft. Lauderdale HS, FL, had a breakout game, scoring 20 points, nabbing eight rebounds, six of them offensive, and picking up three steals. Dietrick Sooter (JR, Pierce City HS, MO) had 14 points and dished out a team-leading four assists. Freshman Danny Zehner (Oakville HS) picked up eight points and four rebounds, coming off the bench for the Gorloks.
Roman Robinson (JR, Merritt CC), who totaled 29 points and 18 rebounds for the weekend, was named to the 2011 Cavallo All-Classic Team. Joining him were Dustin Kinn (SO, Bluffton University), Nick Lee (SR, Bluffton University), Markeith Wilson (Rust College, Donald Rucker (Maryville College), and Milton Stanley (Maryville College).
In the first game of the day, Bluffton (OH) defeated Rust (TN), 97-94, in a triple overtime thriller. Webster fell to 0-2 on the young weekend.
Webster will spend the Thanksgiving weekend in Lincoln, Nebraska, as they play in the Snyder Classic. The Gorloks will face Luther College (IA) on November 25, and host Nebraska Wesleyan University on November 26.
