Box Score Battling right up to the game's final minute, the Webster University women's basketball team succumbed to Augustana College, 70-62, in Rock Island, IL, on November 26. The Gorloks and Vikings were down by a basket with 48 seconds remaining in the game, but several three-point attempts in the final seconds missed their mark, and Webster took the loss.
The Vikings took control early and had Webster down 35-20 before a 10-0 Gorlok run sent them into the locker down by five. The teams traded baskets for a good part of the second half as Webster took a 45-44 lead at 13:40, and were tied at 58-58 with 3:40 remaining. The Vikings held a 64-62 lead with :48 left, but the Gorloks couldn't convert several shot attempts to take the lead. Augustana hit their free throws in the waning seconds to seal the win.
Newcomer Gwen Williams (JR, Florissant Valley CC/Ft. Zumwalt West HS) had 19 points, on 8-14 shooting from the field. Williams had five steals to lead Webster as well. Megan Willett (SR, Parkway West HS) led Webster with eight rebounds and added two blocked shots.
Webster fell to 0-3 on the season, while Augustana improved to 4-0. The Gorloks are home on November 30, to open play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference against Westminster College at Grant Gymnasium. Elmhurst College (IL) visits Grant on December 3.
