Box Score The results from the Webster University men's basketball team's, 73-52, win over Westminster College (MO) on November 30, at Grant Gymnasium, will surely get notice from around the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Gorloks were picked to finish no higher than third place in the SLIAC pre-season coaches poll, behind Westminster, who was picked to finish first.
Playing like a team that wants at least to match last season's 13-3 first place finish in the SLIAC, Webster jumped out to a 42-22 halftime lead and cruised to the victory. The Gorloks shot 53% from the field for the game, and outrebounded the Blue Jays on the defensive boards, 31-21. Webster muscled its way inside, picking up numerous lay-ups, having to rely less on its outside shooting. The win was Webster's first of the season, as they improved to 1-4 overall.
Stefan Whittingham (Ft. Lauderdale HS, FL), who is having a breakout sophomore season, had a double-double, leading the Gorloks in both points (17) and rebounds (12). Whittingham was a force on the defensive end, picking up all 12 of his rebounds there.
Giving Webster an extremely rare, second double-double in the same game, was Roman Robinson (JR, Merritt CC, CA) who had 13 points and 11 rebounds. Jarrod Huskey (SO, Hillsboro HS, MO) just missed giving Webster a third double-double, scoring 11 and grabbing eight rebounds.
Webster travels to perennial NCAA III power, Illinois Wesleyan, on December 3. The teams travels to Holly Springs on December 10 for a game at Rust College before returning home the next day (December 11) to face Austin College (TX) at Grant Gymnasium.
