Men's Basketball Loses on Titan's Turf, 97-64

Box Score With seven players on its roster taller than the tallest of Gorloks, a victory over Illinois Wesleyan University (IL) on the road would have been a 'tall' order, but one Webster could not fill as they lost to the Titans, 97-64, on December 3.  Sophomore Stefan Whittingham (Ft. Lauderdale HS, FL) and freshman Ahmad Smith's (Clayton HS) play were the bright spots on the evening for Webster.

Whittingham, Webster's leading scorer and rebounder on the season, had 17 points and six rebounds for the game.  Smith had 10 points, three rebounds, and four assists, coming off the bench for the Gorloks.  A silver lining for Webster as a team was its 15-18 shooting from the free throw line.  But the undersized Gorloks took a beating on the boards, being outrebounded by the Titans, 48-29.

The Gorloks schedule has no 'gimmes' on it in the early going.  Wesleyan, a perennial NCAA III power, started the season 4-0, and is particulary tough (3-0) at home.  Webster's opponents who have defeated them so far in 2011-12, had a cumulative record of 22-7 heading into today's action.

Webster travels to Holly Springs, MS, on December 10 to play Rust College.  They are back at home the following day, December 11, as they face Austin College (TX), in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
