Webster Wings Eagles, 53-50

The Webster University women’s basketball team bounced back with a 53-50 win over Spalding University (KY) on February 11 at Grant Gymnasium. The Gorloks moved into third place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with the victory. Webster, who suffered a tough conference loss two nights earlier, regained its form as Katy Meyer (SR, Parkway Central HS) poured in 21 points.

The Gorloks came back figuratively, and literally, as they rebounded from an 8-0 deficit at the start of the contest. Webster fought right back, outscoring the Golden Eagles, 11-1, to pull ahead. Webster held a slim lead for most of the contest until opening up a seven-point advantage on a Maggie Zehner (SO, Oakville HS) jumper with 1:26 left in the game. Spalding shot a three-pointer at the buzzer for the tie, but the shot drifted wide.

Megan Willett (JR, Parkway West HS) had 13 points, and Zehner had nine for Webster. The Gorloks were seven for 17 from the three-point line, as Meyer went four for six. Meyer’s six rebounds were tops for the team.  Webster swept the season series against the second place Golden Eagles, inflicting two of their three SLIAC losses on the season. The Gorloks improved to 9-4 in the SLIAC and 14-8 overall.

The women's team and the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) sponsored a 'Think Pink' night at the game, to help raise awareness of breast cancer.  Donations were collected and a 50/50 raffle alone helped raise over $150.  All monies raised were donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

The Gorloks travel to Fulton, MO, on February 16 to take on Westminster College and return to Grant Gymnasium to host Greenville College (IL) on February 19 for Senior Day.
