Webster University men’s basketball team grabbed the lead in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 62-51 win over Spalding University (KY) on February 11 at Grant Gymnasium. The Gorloks entered the contest tied for first with the Golden Eagles, but ended the evening alone at the top of the SLIAC.
Webster took a 10-point lead into the locker room, 27-17, after a low-scoring first half. Spalding shaved the lead to two in the second half and was trading baskets with the Gorloks. A missed dunk by the Golden Eagles with 2:48 swung the momentum back Webster’s way for good to the delight of the raucous crowd that had gathered for the rare Friday night affair.
Jarrod Huskey (FR, Hillsboro HS, MO) had the second-highest point total of his young career with 19, and snatched a team-high nine rebounds as well. Drew Moore (SR, Northwest HS) added 15 points and Willie Trimble (JR, Riverside CC, CA) had 14 points and five steals for the game. The Gorloks as a team had 13 steals on the night.
Like the Webster women, the men’s team swept the season series with the Golden Eagles, tagging them with two of their three losses in the SLIAC. The Gorloks are 11-2 in the SLIAC and 16-5 on the season. The team heads to Fulton, MO, to face Westminster College on February 16. Webster returns home on February 19 for Senior Day, vs. Greenville College (IL).
