SLIAC Title Still in Reach as Webster Falls

Westminster College 71 Webster 62

The Webster University men’s basketball team fell into a three-way tie for first place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference after losing at Westminster College, 71-62, on February 16. The Gorloks fell behind early, and the Blue Jays maintained an eight to 10 point lead for most of the game. The Gorloks threatened on back to back three-pointers by Willie Trimble (JR, Riverside CC, CA) and Cody Bradfisch (SO, Jerseyville HS, IL), pulling to within three with 14 minutes remaining, but that was as close as they would come.

Webster, Westminster, and Spalding University all sit at 11-3 in the SLIAC. Webster has the tie-breaker advantage with a sweep of Spalding during conference play. The Gorloks have two games remaining in the league, and a pair of wins will lock up the SLIAC title and the hosting of the post-season tournament as the #1 seed. Spalding is not eligible for post-season play, but can compete for the league title.

Bradfisch scored a career-high 22 points on eight of 14 shooting from the field.  Jarrod Huskey (FR, Hillsboro HS, MO) grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for the Gorloks.  Trimble had 13 points for the game, and Drew Moore (SR, Northwest HS) finished with 10 points before fouling out.

The Gorloks face Greenville College (IL) at home on February 19, and then close out the regular season schedule with a road game at Fontbonne University on February 22.
