Gorloks Lose Steam in Fulton

Westminster College 73 Webster 52

The Webster University women’s basketball team fell into a hole too deep to climb out of as it lost at Westminster College, 73-53, on February 16. The Blue Jays, who are 14-0 and firmly entrenched in first place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, flew to a 43-20 lead and coasted to the win. The Gorloks slipped into third place for conference tournament seeding, but still control their own fate.

Courtney Pursley (FR, St. Clair HS, MO) came off the bench and scored 17 points, the most in her young career, to lead Webster. Katy Meyer (SR, Parkway Central HS), held to five points, down from her 13.6 average, had a team-high nine rebounds. The Gorloks were 7-16 from the three-point line, but the Blue Jays managed to get off 18 more field goal attempts, and shot 47% for the game.

Webster has SLIAC conference games remaining at home vs. Greenville College (IL) on February 19, and on the road to close the regular season at Fontbonne University. Wins in both those contests would wrap up a SLIAC post-season tournament spot. Webster is 9-5 in the SLIAC and 14-8 overall on the season. The game at home on the 19th is Senior Day and seniors Katy Meyer and Molly Zehner (Oakville HS) will be honored for their service as Gorloks.
