The Webster University men’s basketball team clinched the #1 seed in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, winning 75-48 at Fontbonne University on February 22. As the #1 seed, Webster will host the tournament on February 25-26 at Grant Gymnasium.
Webster finished 13-3 in the SLIAC and are 18-6 overall. The 18 wins is the second highest single season total in team history. The Gorloks finished tied for first with Spalding University (KY) and Westminster College. The first place finish is the fourth in nine seasons at the helm for head coach Chris Bunch. Webster had the tie-breaker for the #1 seed by virtue of a sweep of Spalding in the regular season.
Cody Bradfisch (SO, Jerseyville HS, IL), fresh off being named Player of the Week in the SLIAC, kept up his torrid pace of the last couple weeks, scoring a team-high 18 points on six for nine shooting, including four for seven from the three-point line. Bradfisch is shooting .564 from the field overall on the season and .565 from beyond the arc.
Willie Trimble (JR, Riverside CC, CA) scored 15, grabbed six rebounds, and dished out seven assists in the win. Nick Jones (SR, Heritage HS, IL), had 12 points on six of eight shooting. Jones, nursing a sore wrist in recent weeks, still managed to throw down a dunk to fire up the large Gorlok fan contingent that made the trek down Big Bend. Robby Meeh (SR, Lindbergh HS) led Webster with seven rebounds.
The Gorloks will take on Greenville in the first round at 8:00 p.m. on February 25. Westminster College will face MacMurray College (IL) at 6:00 p.m. The championship game will be on February 26 at 7:00 p.m. Webster University students simply need to show a school ID for entry, their admission fee will be subsidized by Student Affairs. Admission is $5 for adults, and $2 for non-Webster students with a school ID and for children ages 5-16. There is no charge for children under five years of age.
