Gorloks Take High-lander Road to Victory

Webster 75 MacMurray College 67

The men’s basketball team avenged its only loss in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, as Webster defeated MacMurray College (IL), 75-67, at Grant Gymnasium on February 5. Webster lost to the Highlanders in the SLIAC season opener on December 1, but have won 10 straight in conference since, and 12 in a row overall.

MacMurray nipped Webster in Jacksonville, IL, 73-69, but the Gorloks were headed only once in the rematch. Webster had a 13-point lead at 3:58 in the second half, but the Highlanders shaved the lead to four with 36 seconds remaining in the game. MacMurray hit 10 second-half three-pointers to close the lead. The Gorloks were able to convert their free throws in the final seconds to secure the victory.

Scott Restoff (SR, Mater Dei HS, IL) was the leading scorer for Webster, hitting a season-high 17 points. Drew Moore (SR, Northwest HS) scored 14 points, and had a team-high seven rebounds along with Jarrod Huskey (FR, Hillsboro HS, MO).

At halftime of the contest, four new members of the Webster Athletics Hall of Fame were inducted. Halley Spann Barke, Mike Hutchison, Eric Stack, and Dan Thoman all slipped on their Hall of Fame jackets and joined the select membership of nine.

Webster remains in first place in the SLIAC with a 10-1 record. The Gorloks are 15-4 overall on the season, the fifth highest win total in team history. The Gorloks face Blackburn College (IL) on February 9, before closing out a three-game home stand on February 11 vs. Spalding University (KY).
