The Webster University women’s tennis team bowed out of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament, losing to Westminster College, 5-4, at Principia College (IL) on April 30. The Gorloks, defending 2010 champs, will not make a return trip to the NCAA III Championships, but still conclude another fine season.
Webster finish the year 9-4 overall and 5-1 in the SLIAC, good for second place. The season saw a number of individual highlights for the Gorloks, who only lose one player to graduation. Hannah Wojahn (Cannon Falls HS, MN), the lone senior, set the Webster career record for doubles victories with 37 heading into the Westminster match.
Allison Tungate (JR, Flora HS, IL) set the Webster career record for singles victories with 39, heading into the Westminster match. Lindsey Hays (SO, Francis Howell HS) had a winning streak of 17 straight total matches and finished SLIAC First-Team All-Conference for singles.
Allison and Paige Tungate (JR, Flora HS, IL) received All-Conference honors also for singles. Both Tungates, Hays, Wojahn, Kate Coen (JR, Rockwood Summit HS), and Maria Arias (SO, Lincoln HS, Ecuador) took home All-Conference honors for doubles. With most of the roster returning, the Gorloks are looking forward to a competitive season in 2012.
