Box Score The Webster University men's basketball team passed its first road test in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in 2011-12, defeating Eureka College, 99-83, on January 10 at Eureka, IL. The Gorloks poured in 30 points in the final eight minutes of the first half to take a 52-39 halftime lead, then kept the pedal to the medal in the second, just missing the coveted century mark. The Gorloks improved to 4-0 in the SLIAC with the win.
The Gorloks and Red Devils traded baskets early in the contest before a rain of Webster three-pointers drove a 32-17 run to close the first half. Stefan Whittingham (SO, Ft. Lauderdale HS, FL), Dietrick Sooter (JR, Pierce City HS, MO), and Cody Bradfisch (JR, Jerseyville HS, IL) all had career high point totals in the contest. Whittingham had a mammoth game for the Gorloks, pulling off a double-double with 27 points and 10 rebounds, but also dishing out five assists. He was 11-22 from the field, going four for six from the three-point line.
Sooter dropped in 25 points on 8-15 shooting, hitting four three-pointers and making five of six from the free throw line. Bradfisch had 19 points, making six of eight from the field and three of four from beyond the arc. The Gorloks as a whole hit 12-23 three-points attempts (52%) for the game. Webster limited its mistakes, committing only 10 turnovers in the wide open contest and outrebounding the Red Devils, 37-27, making it a complete victory on the road.
Webster is 4-8 overall on the season. The Gorloks will return home on January 12 with a game vs. MacMurray College (IL) at Grant Gymnasium, and face Principia College (IL) two days later on January 14 at Grant as well.
