Gorloks Gobbled Up in Lion's Den

Lindenwood University 78 Webster 57

Box Score Taking a one-game hiatus from its St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule, the Webster University men’s basketball team got a taste of NCAA II competition in a 78-57 loss at Lindenwood University on January 23.  The Lions, who are transitioning to NCAA II from NAIA, were too much for the Gorloks to handle, as Webster saw its seven-game win streak end.

A Lion 19-5 run turned into a 34-19 Gorlok deficit in the first half.  The Gorloks went on a 7-0 run of their own to cut it to 34-26, but headed into the locker room down, 42-30.  With junior Cody Bradfisch (Jerseyville HS, IL) out with an injury, Webster went with a young lineup often, having two or three freshmen on the floor for most of the first half.

Lindenwood built its first half lead relying on 8 of 14 three-point shooting.  It went with its height advantage in the second and was able to force the ball inside for numerous layups to maintain the lead.

Roman Robinson (JR, Merritt CC, CA) led Webster with 15 points and four steals.  Stefan Whittingham (SO, Ft. Lauderdale HS, FL) had 10 points and led the Gorloks with eight rebounds.  Freshman Danny Zehner (Oakville HS) scored 11 points and pulled down six rebounds in the loss.

Webster falls to 8-9 on the season as it resumes its SLIAC schedule.  The Gorloks travel to Blackburn College (IL) on January 28 before winding up their five-game road stretch at Westminster College on February 1.
