Box Score Staying in the thick of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference battle, the Webster University women’s basketball team defeated Blackburn College, 71-66, on January 28, at Carlinville, IL. The Gorloks, led by Maggie Zehner’s (JR, Oakville HS) 15 points, improved to 6-3 in the SLIAC with the win.
Zehner had five rebounds and handed out three assists in the victory as well. Kaliann Rikard (SO, Cuba HS, MO) had 10 points before fouling out of the contest, and Cassie Endicott (FR, Civic Memorial HS, IL) had 10 points and two blocked shots. Courtney Pursley (SO, St. Clair HS, MO) came off the bench for the Gorloks and had nine points in just 12 minutes of play.
Webster led 33-28 at half in a tight-knit affair. The Gorloks led by three with :30 remaining in the game but staved off a late Beaver challenge.
Webster is one loss out of second, and two out of first in the SLIAC standings. The Gorloks are 8-10 on the season overall. Webster travel to Fulton, MO, on February 1 to take on first place Westminster College, and are back home on February 4 to face Eureka College (IL). That is Webster Athletics Hall of Fame day, with three new members being inducted at halftime of the men’s game.
