Buehrig Helps Women's BB Bury Beavers, 63-55

Box Score The Webster University women's basketball team opened the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule with a 63-55 win over Blackburn College (IL) on November 28, at Grant Gymnasium.  Sophomore center Jamie Buehrig (Bishop DuBourg HS, MO), in her first start for Webster, led the Gorloks with 20 points and 15 rebounds.

On the strength of 16 points from Buehrig, Webster led, 28-22, with 1:30 remaining in the first half.   Less than a minute later, three-pointers by Airyn Miller (SR, Belleville West HS, IL) and Gwen Williams (SR, Ft. Zumwalt West HS, MO), plus a lay-up by Williams, pushed the Gorlok lead to 38-24 at the half.  In the second half. Webster maintained a double figure lead throughout, never falling behind in the contest.

Buehrig, hitting a 'double double' in her first start, was starting in place of Cassie Endicott (SO,Civic Memorial HS, IL) who is on the mend from an ankle injury suffered the in Gorloks' victory over Augustana College (IL) on November 24.  Courtney Pursley (JR, St. Clair HS, MO) narrowly missed duplicating the 'double double' feat, pulling down 12 rebounds and scoring nine points.  As a team, the Gorloks pulled down 55 rebounds.

Maggie Zehner (SR, Oakville HS, MO) had a complete effort on the night, leading the team with five assists, scoring eight points, grabbing six rebounds, and snatching four steals.  Gwen Williams (SR, Ft. Zumwalt West HS, MO) had 11 points and a team-high five steals for the game.

The Gorloks are 1-0 in the SLIAC and 3-2 overall.  Webster continues play in the SLIAC on December 1 as they travel to Greenville College (IL).  The Gorloks are back home on December 3 as they host the University of Dubuque (IA).
