Greenville Hands Gorloks Overtime Loss, 74-72

Box Score The Webster University women's basketball team suffered their first loss in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, falling at Greenville College (IL), 74-72, in OT, on December 1.  The Gorloks and Panthers battled throughout the contest, with neither team having a lead larger than five points, but Webster never could take control of the game as they fall to 1-1 in the SLIAC

In the overtime session, Maggie Zehner (SR, Oakville HS, MO) hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 68-68, and two free throws by Kaliann Rikard (JR, Cuba HS, MO) momentarily gave the Gorloks a lead, 72-71, at 0:30.  A Greenville lay-up at 0:14 gave the Panters a 73-72 lead the Gorloks couldn't overcome in the waning seconds.

Down, 34-32 at the half, Webster fell behind 43-38 at the 12:30 mark in the second.  But over the next two minutes, a 6-0 run gave the Gorloks the lead.  A Greenville three-pointer put the Panthers back up by three at 4:30.  Over the next three minutes, though, a frenetic up and down the floor pace ended with a lay-up by Gwen Williams (SR, Ft. Zumwalt West HS, MO) and Webster having a 58-57 lead with 1:20 left in regulation.  With the scored tied at 63-63, a Greenville lay-up with only three-tenths of a second on the game clock, was nullified by a charge call and the teams went into OT.

William led Webster with 21 points and five steals.  Jamie Buehrig (SO, Bishop DuBourg HS, MO) had a team-high 12 rebounds and had 10 points for the game.  Zehner finished with 15 points and had six assists, and Courtney Pursley (JR, St. Clair HS, MO) had 11 points and seven rebounds in the loss.

The Gorloks are 3-3 overall and will be at home on December 3 to face the University of Dubuque (IA) at Grant Gym.  On December 8, the team travels to Chicago to play Elmhurst College.
