Box Score Unable to sustain a halftime lead, the Webster University women’s basketball team fell to Spalding University, 54-41, on February 11, in Louisville, KY. The Gorloks still have a firm hold on the fourth, and final, St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference post-season tournament spot, even with the loss.
Leading 27-23 at the half, Webster was outscored, 31-14, in the second half as the team shot a dismal 17% (4-23) from the field. The Gorloks, who were four for nine from the three-point line in the first half, couldn’t connect on one in the second.
Maggie Zehner’s (JR, Oakville HS) eight points for the game was good enough to lead the Gorloks. A bright spot for Webster was the tandem of centers Cassie Endicott (FR, Civic Memorial HS, IL) and Loren Douglass (SR, Marquette HS) picking up eight and seven rebounds, respectively. Jaime Gaal (JR, Ursuline Academy) came off the bench to score six points.
Webster is 7-6 in the SLIAC and 9-13 overall. The Gorloks return home to face Greenville College (IL) on February 15 and travel to MacMurray College (IL) on February 18. The Battle of Big Bend vs. Fontbonne University on February 21 winds up the home schedule for the season.
