Box Score Breaking out of a mini-funk in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the Webster University men’s basketball team handled Greenville College (IL), 85-72, on February 15 at Grant Gymnasium. The Gorloks moved into a tie for first place in the SLIAC at 11-3 with Eureka College (IL) with two conference games remaining.
Eureka has a little tougher road its final two regular season conference games, having to play at third and fourth place teams, MacMurray College and Westminster College. The Gorloks are on the road at MacMurray, and finish up at home vs. Fontbonne University.
Stefan Whittingham (SO, Ft. Lauderdale HS, FL) and Roman Robinson (JR, Merritt CC, CA) both recorded double doubles in the win. Whittingham had his eighth of the season, scoring 19 points, on eight of 12 shooting, and cleaning the boards for a team-high 15 rebounds. The 15 rebounds tied his team-high for the season.
Robinson tied Whittingham for a team-high 19 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Cody Bradfisch (JR, Jerseyville HS, IL) also got in on the scoring parade, picking up 17 points in the win.
The Gorloks found themselves trailing, 28-26, at the half due to cold shooting (10-34, 29%), but Webster heated it up in the second. An 18-4 run to open the half put Webster up, 44-32, and the Gorloks extended the lead to 16 before cruising to victory. Webster wound up shooting a scorching 78% (22-28) in the second half, bringing its game percentage to 52%.
Webster is 11-12 overall. The Gorloks play MacMurray on February 18 in Jacksonville, IL. The regular season schedule comes to an ends with the Battle of Big Bend vs. Fontbonne on February 21 at Grant Gymnasium.
