Men's BB Back on Track With Win at Principia

Box Score Keeping a grip on first place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the Webster University men’s basketball team downed Principia College, 76-67, on February 7, at Elsah, IL.  With two starting guards in class for this unusual SLIAC Tuesday night tilt, the Gorloks had to rely on their bench for help and they found it in Ahmad Smith (FR, Clayton HS) and Mel Drady (SO, St. John Vianney HS).

Smith had 12 points on five of seven shooting from the field. Drady had a team-high seven assists, the second highest single game total on the season for Webster, and a game-high three steals as well.  Stefan Whittingham (SO, Ft. Lauderdale HS, FL) paced the Gorloks with his seventh double double of the season, scoring 15 points and grabbing a team-high 14 rebounds.

Cody Bradfisch (JR, Jerseyville HS, IL), playing a short distance from his hometown turf, led Webster with 21 points, shooting eight of 14, including four three-pointers.  Roman Robinson (JR, Merritt CC, CA) hit double figures in points also, scoring 13.

The Gorloks and the Blue and Gold were tied 27-27 at the half, but a Webster 25-7 run to open the second put the game firmly in its control with a 52-34 lead.  Webster shot a blistering 69% from the field in the second half (22-32) in pulling away for the win.

Webster improves to 10-2 in the SLIAC and 10-11 overall.  The Gorloks travel to Spalding University on February 11, to take on the Golden Eagles in Louisville, KY.  They return home to face Greenville College (IL) on February 15.
