Webster Women Bounce Back With Win at Spalding

Box Score After suffering a rare home loss to MacMurray College (IL) just two nights before, the Webster University women's basketball team rebounded nicely with a 60-48 win on the road, at Spalding University KY), on January 10.  Senior guard Maggie Zehner (Oakville HS, MO) continued her assault on St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent's defenses, scoring 18 points to lead Webster.

The Gorloks, who improved to 3-2 in the SLIAC with the win, had an 18-5 run to close the first half and take control of the contest.  The game was tied, 15-15, with just over 10 minutes to play in the first, when Webster made its move and grabbed a 33-20 halftime lead.  The Golden Eagles edged to within six, at 39-33, with 12 minutes remaining in the second half, but the Gorloks wouldn't allow them to get any closer.

Zehner has averaged 19.5 points over her last four games, the last three coming against SLIAC opponents.  She had a team-high five steals and tied for the team lead with six rebounds.  Zehner now has 906 points in her career at Webster, placing her eighth on the Gorloks all-time career scoring list.  She is 26 points from the seventh place mark of 932.

Kaliann Rikard (JR, Cuba HS, MO) led Webster with six assists, and added 11 points and three steals.  Courtney Pursley (JR, St. Clair HS, MO) had eight points and shared the team lead with six rebounds.

The Gorloks are 6-8 overall on the season.  Webster makes the trek to Fulton, MO, to face Westminster College on January 15.  The team returns home on January 17 as they host Fonbonne University in the renewal of the 'Battle of Big Bend'.
