Gorloks Gallop by Griffins, 82-69

Box Score The Webster University men's basketball team won its second straight, a 82-69 win over Fontbonne University at  Grant Gymnasium, on January 17.  Roman Robinson (SR, Angelo Rodriguez HS, CA) and Ahmad Smith (SO, Clayton HS, MO) both tallied 18 points in the win for the Gorloks.  The victory was Webster's second straight after halting a losing skid two nights earlier with a win at Westminster College.

Webster blew open what was relatively a close contest up until that point, with a 14-4 run to open the second half, firmly taking control of the game.  The Gorloks had a slim, 40-39 halftime lead, mostly on the back of Robinson, who had 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals in the period.  Webster ground out a 55-42 lead at 14:00 in the second, and had only one scare after...a 9-0 Fontbonne run that the Gorloks negated with a 9-2 run of their own, to bring the lead back to 11 with seven minutes remaining in the contest.  From that point on, Webster mainatined a 10-point cushion.

In the rivalry labeled as the "Battle of Big Bend," the Gorloks have now won 11 straight from the Griffins.  Both teams started the evening tied at 3-3 in the SLIAC, and Webster ended the night 4-3 and tied for fourth place with Westminster.  The Gorloks improved to 6-9 overall on the season.

Robinson finished with a double double for the game, scoring 18 points and ending with 13 boards.  Smith gained his 18 points on 8-14 shooting from the field, helping the Gorloks to shoot 50% as a team.  Cody Bradfisch (SR, Jerseyville HS, IL) shot 4-5 from the field and 4-4 from the free throw line and finished with 13 points.  Jarrod Huskey (JR, Hillsboro HS, MO) had 12 points and added seven rebounds.

The Gorloks hit the road for a pair of games, first at Principia College (IL) on January 19, and then at MacMurray College (IL) on January 23.  Webster will be back home on January 26, to face Eureka College IL) at Grant Gymnasium.
